High-speed Johannesburg–Pretoria rail link - Concession

General description

As part of a concession project, the consortium was in charge of a design, build, finance, maintain, and operate contract for a high-speed rail link between Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Johannesburg International Airport.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

The project comprises:

- Two lines totalling a length of 80 km, and includes 15 km of bored or blasted tunnels, 500 m of cut-and-cover tunnels, 10.5 km of viaducts,

- 50 underpasses and overpasses, 10 stations, three of which are underground, a train maintenance depot, an operations centre,  2,900 underground parking spaces, 8,200 open-air parking spaces, 60 bus lines, and 2 depots.

All the construction work was subject to an environmental conservation plan: conservation of displaced trees, limitation of noise, and reduction of dust emissions, etc.
