Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The world’s longest sea bridge between Macao and Hong Kong

Bridges

Hong-Kong, 2012-2016

General description

As an integral part of the programme for enhancing the links between major cities in the region, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is one of the ten leading infrastructure projects launched by the Hong Kong government since 2007. Within the scope of this project, the consortium, made up of Dragages Hong Kong and VSL International, is tasked with constructing a 9.4-km section linking the international airport island up to the limits of Hong Kong’s territorial waters. The bridge will carry a dual three-lane highway above west Hong Kong’s deep waters.

Most of the work is carried out using sea-based equipment, requiring dedicated logistic infrastructures. At the same time, navigation ways must be kept open during the construction. Last but not least, very strict height limitations have to be respected on account of airport proximity.
