L2 Marseille Bypass

10.5 km of expressways to ease city centre congestion

Linear Projects (motorways)

France, 2014-2017

General description

Carried out as a PPP partnership contract for a term of 30 years, the L2 Marseille project comprises financing, design, maintenance and renewal of structures and equipment for the new city bypass. For this project, two distinct stretches have been designed and built: new construction of a section to the north of Marseille (4.1-km long) and completion of construction of the east section (5.5 km), begun some twenty years ago.

The L2 will bypass and ease Marseille’s city centre congestion by creating a free, urban expressway of around 10 kilometres linking highways A7 (to Aix-en-Provence) and A50 (east to Aubagne and Toulon) and will authorize urban requalification of neighbourhoods served. The L2 will therefore enable numerous projects to be carried out for developing public transport.
