Flaubert Bridge in Rouen

Lift bridge at the end of the city of Rouen's motorway bypass

Bridges

France, 2004 - 2008

General description

metal piles

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
The 2,700-tonne bases and 3,200-tonne gabions were placed at the bottom of the Seine by jacking down. The 4 reinforced concrete circular gabions and 2 bases were built over the water, suspended by pre-stressing cables on piles. VSL France then lowered the structures 20 m by heavy lifting©.

The 4 reinforced concrete pylon like pillars more than 66 m high were built using climbing formwork.

The 450-tonne structural steelwork that support the pulleys operating the lift bridge were set up at a height of 70 metres on the pylons by a floating crane.
