Philippines, 2017-2024
The Manila metro project involves extending metro line 1, which came into service in 1984. It is part of a programme initiated by the Philippine government, whose aims include accelerating public investment in infrastructure projects in response to the country's rapid urbanisation and population growth.
The project consists of constructing a 6.6 km elevated viaduct, five stations, an administrative building and an intermodal facility. The viaduct and its five stations (Redemptorist, MIA, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino and Dr. Santos) connect to the existing Line 1 at Baclaran and extend to Parañaque in the metropolitan suburbs of Manila (Greater Manila). The line will cross some of the city's major motorways, rivers, business establishments, transport terminals and the nearby Ninoy Aquino Airport.
