General description

Upgrading of the Alpine tunnel of the Swiss rail operator, Chemins de Fer Fédéraux (CFF), between Brig (Valais canton) and Iselle (Italy).

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

Work on the 19.8-km-long twin-tube tunnel on the Lötschberg Tunnel route comprises:

- modification of the 35 cross-passages,

- construction of 4 new cross-passages,

- enlargement of existing niches and refuges,

- construction of 60 km of ductbanks,

- trackbed lowering over 1.6 km,

- construction of 16 km of drains.
