The seafront promenade and marina scheme is the last stage in the infrastructure project for the gigantic urban redevelopment operation in the centre of Beirut. It is located on the demarcation line that once split Beirut in two.
It consists of a 1,335-m-long breakwater made from an alignment of 80 "wave-absorbing" caissons protected by a submerged artificial reef. On the caissons is built a three-level promenade deck offering a superb view over the sea. In addition, opposite the Saint Georges Hotel, a 450-m-long traditional breakwater protects a 400-boat marina.
