The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has awarded Bouygues Travaux Publics the contract for the design-build and equipping of a 3.4-kilometre subsea road tunnel linking the former Kai Tak airport to Cha Kwo Ling, including two ventilation shafts, electrical and mechanical engineering work and roadworks. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2026.
This contract is part of the construction of a new road called Route 6. When completed, Route 6 will provide a fast east-west link between western Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O City. It will also ease congestion on existing roads in central Kowloon.
