General description

The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has awarded Bouygues Travaux Publics the contract for the construction of the Central Kowloon Route (CKR) tunnel, which includes the construction of a 2.8-kilometre section of a twin-tube tunnel linking Yau Ma Tei and Ma Tau Kok, two access tunnels and a ventilation shaft. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2025.  

This contract is part of the construction of a new road called Route 6. When completed, Route 6 will provide a fast east-west link between western Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O City. It will also ease congestion on existing roads in central Kowloon.
